New Sydney Showground Solar Hoods to pavilions
The award winning RAS Animal Pavilions were designed by Pavilion Architects, a consortium consisting of Timothy Court and Company, Scott Carver and SJPH Design Partnership.

Client: Olympic Coordination Authority
Location: Homebush Bay, NSW
Size: 75,000 sqm
Project Value: $67,000,000

Given the unique parameters and the vast size of the development; the relatively low budget; and the unusual usage: animal storage and display; a unique design solution was called for. The buildings rely heavily on passive solar design to ensure acceptable temperarture levels are maintained. With each animal producing heat equal to a small bar heater, this is no mean feat. A line of skylight ventilators was designed in black polycarbonate to produce a natural air flow through the sides of the building and out though high level ventilators. This design solution produces up to 15 air changes per hour, well above the standard office air conditioning of 6 air changes per hour. The facility is a multi purpose exhibition precinct designed for fitout as the annual Royal Sydney Easter Show, the largest agricultual show in the world. During the show the buildings house 1000 horses, 800 cattle, plus sheep, pigs, al pacas, poultry etc.
