Timothy Court & Company were invited to submit a competition
entry for the venue for the 10th National China Games equestrian events.
Four firms were invited to submit from around the world, putting
Timothy Court & Company in very prestigious company.
The design made unique use of the existing site, forming a
walled valley garden in the centre of the track, leaving the track perched
at existing contours around the edge of the valley. This allowed the infield
to become a parkland with large trees and water features, rather than the
flat treeless expanse that a traditional racecourse has.
The project also includes residential areas of varying densities
and a commercial town centre. With these areas being associated with the racecourse
and equestrian facilities, the residences have an increased value and also
a suburban focus far above suburban developments in surrounding areas.
With 300 stables, competition arenas, a grandstand for 20,000
spectators and all the usual associated facilities this project is an ambitious
enterprise for both Nanjing and China.
